About Us
AVRmotorsports.com principals Sam Ashtiani, Shane Viccary, and Jonathon Rolstin, are all graduates with Bachelor of Engineering degrees from UOIT. All 3 are project leaders in the UOIT Formula SAE program.
Both Ashtiani and Viccary bring a veteran's perspective as drivers in F1200 Championship Series, as well, Rolstin brings ALMS and GT mechanical experience to round out AVR's leadership and management team.
The 2009 Ontario Regional F1200 season saw TLM Racing compete at Mosport, Shannonville and Calabogie in 3 beautifully prepared and competitive F1200 race cars. In the past 4 seasons, TLM has won over 40 podiums, 2 Rookie of the Year awards, and 2 Vallis Cups. TLM continues to attract Karters to the Formula 1200 series which is an affordable progression from karts to open wheel racing.
F1200 is an open wheel single seat racing class. The strict formula rules are designed to promote driver development, and in 2008 will celebrate it's 45th year. F1200 drivers can compete in any CASC scheduled event by racing in the Formula Libre class where F1200 don't have their own race. The same cars are also eligible to race in the USA so all F1200 drivers here in Canada can take on the considerable challenge of competing to win the SCCA runoffs.
To our knowledge, we are the only road racing group in Canada that has factory support at the track. Vallis Motor Sport (VMS) builder of the BRD with over 25 years of F1200 experience attends all races with advice, assistance, and spare parts, regardless of where a racer has bought their car. TLM Racing has a strong affiliation with Vallis Motorsports which is owned and operated by Bill Vallis, to both service and provide trackside mechanical support to TLM Racing's F1200 cars.
The Series
The FTDA (Formula 1200 Drivers Association) series consists of 18 to 21 races held at Mosport, Shannonville and the new Calabogie track in 2007. To qualify you must be a member of a recognized racing club as well as the FTDA. A race weekend will usually consist of qualifying and 3 races. The races are usually 20 to 30 minutes in length. Although our cars can reach speeds in excess or 200 KPH, the series emphasizes the drivers ability rather than the car. It is about 90% driver and 10% car.
